INTERNATIONAL EXPOSURE VISIT TO KENYA

UCSCU has organized an international benchmarking/ Study visit for Ugandan-based SACCOs to Kenya.

Purpose of the study visit.

The study visit seeks to reinvigorate the SACCO sector in Uganda as a potential Vehicle for social economic transformation through learning and sharing of knowledge from other successful stakeholders in the same industry in Kenya

Study Objectives

To underscore the key success factors that have led to the growth of the SACCO sector in Kenya.

To Evaluate appropriateness and readiness of SACCOs towards legislation and supervision.

To explore the effect of digitization/ Digitalization in supporting institutional growth and sustainability.

To explore and appreciate the role of the Apex Organization in supporting member growth.

Synthesize the SACCO sector gaps and propose policy recommendation to Government that will help grow the SACCO sector

Scope and Methodology

The study will cover a number of thematic areas affecting the SACCO sector in Uganda, these areas will include Effective Resource mobilization, Digitization and ICT Adoption, Green Finance and Environmental Protection, Governance, SACCO Regulation and Supervision, Capitalization, Data Protection, Cyber security, Branding and Marketing, Patronization and Roles of the Apex Organizations.

UCSCU will mobilize SACCOs in Uganda and take them to selected SACCOs in Kenya for a five (5) days Study visits where they will interact with various stakeholders responsible for the growth of the SACCO sector in Kenya.

Coordination of this study visit will be conducted by officials from UCSCU, ACCOSCA and KUSSCO. UCSCU will be responsible for the mobilization of the Visiting SACCOs, Transportation and guaranteeing the welfare of all visiting delegates while in Kenya.

KUSCCO will be responsible for hosting the Ugandan delegates, coordinating all hosting institutions, Transportation and scheduling all meetings for the delegates while ACCOSCA will be responsible for arranging meetings with relevant Government Agencies and departments responsible for SACCOs in Kenya. The meetings will be guided by in-depth Interviews with a guided questionnaire for effective coordination, Focus Group discussions will also be encouraged to enable the delegates seek for further clarity on the thematic areas

Target Participants/ Delegates

The visiting delegates from Uganda will be drawn from SACCOs, Development partners, Ministries and Government Agencies responsible for SACCO development.

Period of the Study Visit

The study visit will take place between 13th – 17th November 2023. All participating delegates are required to have paid their participating fees by 3rd November 2023 to enable UCSCU make all necessary arrangements.

Participation fees

Each delegate will be required to pay prescribed fees as to Carter for Transport either by air or Road, Accommodation, meals, internal travel costs and coordination. The fees are prescribed in the table below.

Output

It is expected that each participant will use this the lessons from this study visit to improve his/ her institution in various ways. As a result, each participant will be required to prepare and submit the following;

Institutional Profile and Delegates expectations Comprehensive report of the lessons learnt. Back-home plan and Action plan.

Commitment Resolution to the Board/Supervisors to implement the agreed action plan.

Monitoring and Evaluation

UCSCU will be charged with the responsibility of Monitoring and supporting the delegates during the Implementation of the Back-home plan and Action Plans

Conclusion

This exposure/ Study visit will be an annual event organized by UCSCU to enable Ugandan SACCO sector players and practitioners benchmark on the successful stories from other countries. UCSCU will continue to organize both Local and International exposure visits for sector players for the growth and sustainability of the SACCO sector in Uganda.
